Dirtybird Campout 2017: The World’s Greatest Summer Camp for Adults (now with more bass)

STAFFMore News, News

It’s time to start ironing on your badges and lacing up both your dancing and hiking boots – DIrtybird Campout is just around the corner!  Campers are coming for a third year of festivities October 6-8 at the event’s new site in Bradley, California.  The 21+ festival will include arts & crafts, nature hikes, team sports, science workshops, BBQ and craft food, and of course two stages of music from some of the world’s biggest names in house, techno, and much more.

San Francisco’s Dirtybird collective is widely accepted as one of the biggest names in house and techno music.  With booty-shaking beats that have infected dance floors from Detroit to Ibiza and beyond, Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin, and company continue to push the production envelope.  Despite its reputation as a house music bastion, the collective has deep roots in the hip hop and bass music scenes that have thrived in the Bay Area for decades!  Given the collective’s history, it’s no surprise that many Dirtybird artists share a deep love for the broken beat.

Earlier this year, Claude VonStroke shed his four-to-the-floor alias to explore his hip hop roots under his real name: Barclay Crenshaw.  Justin and Christian Martin have created a new junglist tradition at campout, with a heavy dose of drum and bass as the sun rises on the last day of camp.  These “breaks” from the sometimes constricting mold of house music are no more evident than on this year’s campout lineup.  With an expanded venue and an extra stage, this year will shine the spotlight on the label’s roots with legendary acts like DJ Marky, DJ Deeon, Egyptian Lover and Madlib, as well as up-and-comers like Tennyson and a showcase from the LA-based Soulection Collective.

Rest assured, Dirtybird records will continue churning out banger after tech house banger, but the diversity of the music at this year’s campout is speaks volumes about the love of all kinds of music held by all the Dirtybird family.  The birdies are curating something truly special this year – sharing the spotlight with some of their biggest influences and proteges while bringing those bouncy jackin’ basslines like only Dirtybird can.  So between shuffling your badges off with the birdy crew, make sure you check out some of the legends they brought to camp this year.  I guarantee you won’t regret it.
